Taking the time to get things right

Its a long time consuming business trying to set out on your own......if you want to get it right! Its also quite difficult working full time at another job, studying and trying to establish yourself all at the same time. Along with this I've had a few health problems which have resulted in a hospital stay, but hopefully thats now all behind me.

Things are moving slowly, but I suppose they ARE moving. My brand new website is up and running (http://www.digitalaura.co.uk/) thanks to Robografix and it looks great! I've been doing some more work with Andre Susan Photography to set up an Adwords campaign which is steadily producing traffic and leads. I also have a number of vouchers available for £50.00 worth of Google Adwords credit.  If anyone wants to try Adwords out, contact me through my website and I'll set up a small campaign (10-20 keywords) and register the voucher for you at no charge.  If you are happy and wish to carry on when the credit has run out, we can discuss the way to move forward.  I only have 6 vouchers left so first come first served!

So any recommendations or introductions are gratefully received, and hopefully I'll soon have more to report.

Taking the plunge!

Well scary old business, but I decided its way past time I was working for myself.  What brought me to this point? Sitting in work doing some task that a monkey could have done, I was informed that although I was in charge of the website the MD had paid a consultant to do the SEO work......Wait a minute....Isn't that what I do? Well yes, but in his infinate wisdom the MD thought that someone outside the company who was very expensive was better qualified.  And what does this SEO guru do for the money? Semds me emails asking me what I've done and then telling me everything is fine. So no actual work is coming from this "expert", I'm still doing it all, and the one piece of advice he has given was completely wrong and about 4 years out of date!

So there I am grumbling away to myself when I get the invoice for this consultant.....and discover exactly what he's charging for me to do the work.  That was the instant I thought "why on earth am I being paid relative peanuts wiorking for an MD who doesn't appreciate my skills when I could be earning much more on my own!"

Couple of months down the line, my new website is almost ready, the business cards are being designed and with some local businesses requesting my help Digital Aura is born. With a few good clients I will be able to wave goodbye to the day job and do the things I'm passionate about full time. And this time my boss will be understanding and supportive - because it'll be me!
